LUME Institute is currently seeking a Workforce Development Coordinator to work in our University City office. This position will maintain and refine our ongoing apprenticeship program, designed to coach candidates through the process of becoming Child Development Associates. Through a variety of partnerships, the Workforce Development Coordinator will maintain and enhance partnerships with SLATE, Better Family Life, Job Corps, St. Clair Workforce Development and similar organizations. Acting as a liaison between these organizations and LUME, you will be responsible for recruiting and coordinating all new cohorts with and through various partnerships. The Workforce Development Coordinator will support the growth of our LUME Approach training courses, as well as evaluate the success of CDA candidates who have been through our apprenticeship program. This position is based inside of University City Children’s Center and reports to the Director of Programs.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assess the impact of the organization’s existing apprenticeship program; recommend programmatic and operational improvements where appropriate
  • Partner with LUME, UCCC and SLATE staff to determine which program areas warrant outside recruiting and what can be accomplished through internal candidates
  • Recruiting candidates throughout the community on an ongoing basis
  • Coordinate with the LUME CMR Specialist on data collection, tracking and documentation of apprenticeship programmatic goals, milestones and advancements
  • Drive the conversation with leadership and cohorts about measurable goals
  • Gain a healthy understanding of programmatic funding sources and partnerships
  • Ability to think outside the box as apprenticeship program recruiting and placement needs increase  
  • Must have healthy understanding of LUMEs Approach and framework and be able to effectively apply it to the CDA apprenticeship program

Skills and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study, Master’s degree is a plus
  • 2 or more years of experience as a trainer through workforce development and facilitating organizational programs as a project manager
  • Previous experience in an educational environment would be a plus
  • Understanding of child care licensing and regulations is recommended; CDA is a plus
  • Understands the value of relationship building and has excellent communication skills
  • Great attention to detail and highly organized
  • Experience tracking and recording measurable data
  • Highly creative with an ability to source candidates from unlikely avenues  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, lead projects, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and work well with other members of our organizations and partnerships
  • Demonstrated experience as a project manager and strategic thinker
